The MLS experiment is over

Beckham reportedly is looking to take on one more challenge before hanging up his golden boots. Speculation is rife as to where he will look to finish his illustrious career. There is much talk about a move to Australia, and some talk about a return to the English Premiership.
The Australia rumour has been around for a while and seems to be possible, although you wonder exactly what sort of challenge would interest Beckham down under.
The Premiership rumour has come about since Harry Redknapp has taken the QPR role, and looks to strengthen his squad. He is a Beckham fan and would gladly have taken him at Tottenham last year - a move to QPR would be a 'challenge' as they are currently bottom of the league without a win - whether that is the sort of challenge Beckham is looking for is yet to be discovered...
Alternatively, Beckham could finish his career in Europe, maybe France with Paris St Germain who courted him recently. A few Englishmen have been playing in on the wrong side of the English Channel this year with Joe Cole and Joey Barton brushing up their schoolboy French and eating frogs legs and snails.

It's difficult to try and guess where David Beckham will end up, but I guess QPR might be attractive since it is not too far from his London home and family roots, and if the offer comes with a chance to get involved in coaching, maybe that would make all the difference. I think the Aussie job is probably odds-on, but QPR is an interesting outsider at this stage.

Beckham at Arsenal

With Thierry Henry back on the bench for Arsenal, the very day after Paul Scholes came out of retirement - The Beckham boys are back in the terraces watching the latest FA cup story unfold, this time to watch Arsenal take on Leeds at the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger has also gone public voicing his belief that Beckham could play in the Premier League again like Henry, it was with Arsenal that Beckham trained in one winter break before the World Cup campaign started.

Wenger expressed his admiration for the determination of both men when playing in the MLS play-offs in 2011. He cited the anger and frustration that Henry displayed on losing the play-off, indicating the desire of the player.

Wenger said that both Beckham and Henry show the same desire to play to the best of their ability rather than sit back and take things easy in the MLS.

Henry repaid his old managers confidence by coming on late in the second half and scoring the winning goal as Arsenal beat Leeds 1-0. A fairy-tale ending to the day for Henry - a sigh of relief from Wenger as his team of youngsters showed promise but could not break through the Leeds defence.

Latest on Beckham coming to Spurs

Apparently Beckham is set to join Harry Redknapps 'Spurs team on £120,000 a week for a loan spell - details are being thrashed out with LA Galaxy.

The main interest is around the possibility that Becks could be in the team to face Man United on 16th January - although whether they will play him that soon remains to be seen. Beckham has not faced a team of this calibre for a long time - whether he is up to speed has yet to be established - however his commitment is not in question...

Still speculation as yet, but the facts seem to be that Harry is willing and David is willing - the chances are that The Galaxy will have to accede to David's wishes (again...). This will need to be sorted in the next few days to make the loan worthwhile to both parties - I suspect that this could be very close to a 'done deal'.

Beckham for Tottenham ?

However unlikely it may have seemed a few weeks ago, there are suddenly a whole host of reasons why David Beckham could sign a loan deal with Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Redknapp.

Now that Sir Alex has bowed out, Beckham may be about to make a U-turn on his Manchester pledge (only to return to the Premier League in the red strip of Manchester United).

These are the poignant facts about a move to White Hart Lane:

• Redknapp tried before to sign Beckham on loan just last year
• Beckham will not come with huge salary demands - he will come to work hard and play football
• Beckham already has a mansion not 25 miles away from Spurs HQ
• His beloved Grandfather was a lifelong 'Spurs fan
• David attended the 'Spurs academy from the age of 10 before signing for Manchester United aged just 14
• 'Spurs would benefit from the addition to their squad who have domestic and European ambition
• 'Spurs coffers would undoubtedly benefit from Beckham's undisputed 'earning power'

The Galaxy have yet to formally agree to a loan signing, but will probably put up little resistance as long as Beckham agrees to return to Los Angeles in March for pre-season training. They know that a determined Beckham is not worth arguing with... It's not about shirt sales, it's about pushing the England manager to the point where he has to consider Beckham for a return to the England squad. This is by no means a done deal, it is pure speculation at this point, but quite a tantalising speculation from my point of view.

Latest Beckham rumors

Strictly sporting rumors of course, we don't do all the other celebrity nonsense on this website...

Steve Bruce recently revealed that he tried to get Beckham to come on loan to Sunderland last year, unsurprisingly David took the position already offered at Milan...

Sir Alex has apparently ruled out a return to Old Trafford for Beckham citing age as the over-riding factor. Arsene Wenger has also said he would 'consider' Beckham, but that Arsenal would have little use for him in their squad.

One surprising development is the rumor that Jose Mourinho could offer him a place back at Real Madrid. There are still Premiership teams that have been linked with Beckham including West Ham and Tottenham - but in the light of recent comments from David, an English team seems an unlikely destination...

With all these rumors flying about, it seems likely that he is definitely looking for a loan spell somewhere despite the LA Galaxy position on the matter.

Beckham eyed by Newcastle

There is a rumour, and it should be stressed that this is pure speculation... that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is preparing to make a bid for David Beckham, currently training at Arsenal in preparation for the England friendly on February 6th.
Having just performed the miracle of bringing Kevin Keegan back to Newcastle, you wouldn't bet against a man that could do that...!
This would surely just be a short-term loan deal whilst the MLS is on it's off-season- I'm not convinced that he would be prepared to come back to the Premiership without having fulfilled his promise in America. I can't see the Beckham family swapping the LA lifestyle for a new gaff in the 'toon', however passionate the Geordies might be about their football. But then.... you never know.... I watched Arsenal getting whupped 5-1 by a high-riding Tottenham tonight, I bet it crossed Arsene Wenger's mind to bring out Beckham as the fifth goal went in...

Season over?

The possibility of six months without a competitive game now looms for Beckham, as the Galaxy fail to win a place in the play-offs. The MLS season resumes in April 2008 and the former England captain will be desperate to demonstrate that he is in good enough form to be included in the England squad for the European Championship qualifier against Croatia on November 21st. However, he has denied reports that he could return to England for a spell on loan with a Premier League outfit, though this would seem to be a not altogether bad idea for Beckham, England, Galaxy and one Premier league club....
